San Evaristo is a small fishing village at the base of the Sierra Gigante mountain range. We arrived here on Valentines Day with five other boats in the anchorage. There is a small beach restaurant and a small store in the area, but that is about it. There is some very good hiking that we plan on taking advantage of when we return to this area in April. After taking a walk around the village, we met up with the other boats at the little restaurant and had a couple of warm beers. The nice people from Compass Rose had organized a group dinner for all the boats in the anchorage with the restaurant owner. Apparently there is no food available at the restaurant unless you reserve early in the day. That night turned out to be one of the coldest nights we have had so far. It was in the 50's with 20 knot winds. We all managed to get to the palapa for the planned outdoor dinner. Luckily, the owner had enclosed the area with some tarps to shield us from the wind and blowing sand! We were treated to a great dinner of fresh fish tacos with homemade beans and rice. It's amazing that she could cook a dinner for 10 on a camp stove in the wind, and have it be this good. Getting back to the boats after dinner proved to be a bit of a challange. The wind had changed direction and was much stronger now. The folks on the boat next to us had rowed ashore for dinner, and the now faced a quarter mile row against wind and waves. We decided to give them a tow back to their boat which was entertaining as the clouds made this an absolutely pitch black night. We all made it back to our boats cold and soaking wet. We look forward to returning to this nice anchorage and doing some more exploring ashore.
The "restaurant" is just over the bow of our sistership Compass Rose
