Bahia Marquer to Bahia Candeleros

On 6/1/2013 we left Puerto Escondido and across the channel to Bahia Marquer.  We were chased out of her by bad weather last month, so we wanted to give it another try.  The crossing was flat calm this time, with a pod of humpback whales that came very close by.

That tail is about 10 feet across!

The wind blew offshore fairly strong for a couple of days, but it was nice as it cooled off the boat a little.  It also apparently kept the bees away.  We had a few bees each morning on the boat as usual, but they would go away after the dew dried up on deck.

At anchor looking toward the beach

Rich caught a nice yellow snapper that was really tasty for dinner

We wondered why there were no boats here when we arrived.  Our friend Steve on Pacific showed up after a couple of days, and we were the only boats in the bay.  Then on 6/4/2013, the wind changed direction in the morning.  We were swarmed by bees!  They were not the passive bees we have been used to, but very aggressive.  They wanted in the boat, under your clothes, and everywhere.  They were looking for something other than water.  Within minutes, we were covered in hundreds of bees.  It was very scary.  Steve and his dog got stung several times.  We were lucky to get the anchor up and get the heck out of there without being stung.  As soon as we were about a quarter mile offshore, the bees went away.  The boat was littered with dead bees from the battles with our two fly swatters.  Since south winds were forecast, we decided to drop anchor in Bahia Candeleros in front of the resort.

Nice beach, nice restaurant, always worth a visit

Our friends Jim and Jean on Kanga showed up the third day here, and we took a trip across the bat to the little fishing village of Ensenada Blanca, at least we think that is the name.  They have a nice little grocery store here that has a little bit of everything at reasonable prices.

We had to have ice cream of course!

We plan to leave here on 6/10/2013 and start heading south back to La Paz, where we will put the boat away for a couple of months.  Forgot to mention that Rich has taken a few days to be net controller of the Amigo net.  This is an SSB net that covers most of Mexico.  It has been fun, but a little stressful to get everything going including the weather forecast for the area.  Only one more Sunday to be controller before we are in the marina and out of radio contact.
